He Thought Kabaddi Was Just a Childhood Game. Big Mistake.

Every college hostel has that one guy who thinks he's good at every sport.

Cricket? "Bhai, main opener tha."

Football? "School team mein tha."

Badminton? "Easy hai."

Meet Raghav.

A second-year college student with unlimited confidence and very limited experience.

One evening, his roommate Mohit announced:

"Kal inter-hostel kabaddi match hai. Ek player kam hai. Tu khelega?"

Raghav looked up from his phone.

"Kabaddi? Arre bhai, woh toh bachpan mein khelte the!"

Mohit smiled.

"Perfect. Kal 4 baje ground pe milte hain."

That smile should have been his first warning.

The Entry Was Heroic. The Exit? Not So Much.

The next afternoon, Raghav arrived wearing his favourite sports shoes.

He even rolled up his sleeves.

"Bhai, pehli raid main karunga."

Mohit tried to explain the rules.

"Dekh, raid mein—"

"Arre pata hai yaar. Touch karke wapas aana hai. Simple."

The whistle blew.

Raghav crossed the midline.

"Kabaddi… kabaddi… kabaddi…"

One defender moved left.

Another stepped forward.

Raghav spotted an opening.

"Ab dekho mera magic!"

He reached out, touched a defender and turned to run.

For exactly two seconds, he felt like a champion.

Then someone caught his ankle.

Another defender blocked his escape.

And suddenly…

DHADAAAM!

Raghav was on the mat.

The referee raised his hand.

OUT!

From the sidelines, Mohit shouted:

"BHAI, YEH PAKDAM-PAKDAI NAHI HAI!"

The Entire Hostel Had Something to Say

By evening, Raghav's first raid had become hostel entertainment.

Someone recreated his fall using two pillows.

Someone else changed the hostel group name to:

"Raghav Kabaddi Academy — Admissions Closed."

Even the mess wale bhaiya asked:

"Beta, aaj raid pe nahi jaa rahe?"

Raghav had two options.

Never go near a kabaddi court again.

Or actually learn how to play.

And for once, he chose the second option.

The Rematch Nobody Expected

For the next two weeks, Raghav started practising with Mohit and the hostel team.

He learned how to time a raid, watch defenders and work with teammates.

Most importantly, he learned that kabaddi isn't just about strength.

It's about timing, strategy and knowing when to make your move.

Then came the rematch.

Same hostel rivalry.

Same crowd.

And once again, Raghav stepped onto the court.

Mohit: "Iss baar hero mat banna. Bas game pe focus kar."

Raghav nodded.

The whistle blew.

He crossed the line.

One defender approached.

Raghav waited.

Another stepped closer.

And just when everyone expected him to get caught again, he made a quick touch and escaped back across the midline.

POINT!

For a second, nobody reacted.

Then the entire hostel erupted.

"RAGHAV! RAGHAV! RAGHAV!"

Mohit ran over and hugged him.

"BHAI, TU SACH MEIN SEEKH GAYA!"

Raghav smiled.

"Bola tha na, kabaddi easy hai."

Mohit stared at him.

"Do hafte pehle tu zameen pe pada tha."

Some things never change.

One Game. A Whole New Squad.

Raghav didn't become a professional kabaddi player overnight.

But something better happened.

He found a sport he genuinely enjoyed and a group of people who made him want to keep improving.

And that's the beauty of sports.

You don't always need experience, expensive equipment or a perfect game plan.

Sometimes, you just need the right people to play with.

That's the idea behind Tag In — helping sports enthusiasts connect with players, discover local games and build their own sporting communities.

Whether it's kabaddi, cricket, badminton or a sport you've never tried before, every great sports story starts somewhere.

And Raghav?

He's now the first person to volunteer whenever someone mentions kabaddi.

Although Mohit still has one rule:

"Bhai, iss baar pehle warm-up kar lena."
